OUT TODAY - David Tennant Talks To His Younger Self For The Big Issue: "Acting...You're Still Getting Away With It"

Image
The new edition of The Big Issue magazine is out today nationally in the UK, and includes a new interview with David Tennant. David spoke to writer Jane Graham exclusively for the regular feature 'Letter To My Younger Self'.

A few extracts have already appeared online. David discusses how he would talk to his 16-year old self about his early plans to be an actor, saying:
"I didn’t know any actors. And people all around me were going, quite rightly, this is a daft idea. You won’t make a living. It was sound and proper advice. Though I still don’t know how much longer that’ll last."

He adds, "I knew I definitely wanted to go to drama school. I think I got my first acting job at 16. Or even 15, an anti-smoking ad. Then I did an episode of Dramarama. We went to the Isle of Skye for four…

You can read extracts from the interview below:
You, Me And HimOn his character's hipster beard:
"It was nearly all my beard. It was 90 per cent my beard, with a sort of promontory at the front which was added, little tufts of yak hair just to give it that little bit extra. I had it long enough to get quite a full carpet round my chin, but not quite long enough to have the little sculpted extra that gave it the full hipster."
On aging hipster alpha male John: "...He's a little bit too old for it. And that's very much the point really. He's a man living a youth that he somehow felt he missed out on – unhappil…
