David Tennant Donates Signed Script To Citizens Theatre’s Seat Restoration Campaign

David Tennant has donated a signed script and DVD of The Decoy Bride to the Citizens Theatre’s Seat Restoration Campaign.
The script is signed by David and his co star Kelly MacDonald and will be one of the lots in a charity auction .

The Citizens Theatre’s seat restoration campaign surpassed a landmark target of £200,000 this week, with two-thirds of the overall target of £314,000 raised since the campaign was launched in 2011. To celebrate the Citizens’ fundraising achievement so far, Maureen Beattie will be presenting Tell Me the Truth About Love ,an evening of poetry and prose starring Siobhan Redmond, Simon Russell Beale and Billy Boyd at the Citizens Theatre on Monday 14 April. All proceeds from the evening will go towards the final target of the Seat Restoration Campaign.
There will also be the chance to bid for auction lots donated by stars such as David Tennant and Alan Cumming, original artwork by Robert Kelsey and a host of other prizes in a celebrity auction presided over by Johnny Beattie and auctioneer Anita Manning of Great Western Auctions, a regular on Flog It and Bargain Hunt.
Speaking on her and her father’s involvement, Maureen Beattie says:
“Having supported the Citizens Theatre’s seat campaign since its launch, my dad Johnny and I are delighted to be involved in this fund-raising event, which will celebrate the generosity of the Citizens’ audience and supporters in donating over £200,000 so far. I’m personally thrilled that Siobhan Redmond, Simon Russell Beale and Billy Boyd have agreed to perform Tell Me the Truth About Love with me: these three actors are at the very top of their game and we have them captive for a night - what’s not to like?”
Tell Me the Truth About Love will feature poetry by Robert Burns, sketches by Victoria Wood, the wit of Oscar Wilde and extracts from Shakespeare plays celebrating love in all its guises. Maureen has assembled a star cast to join her on stage: Siobhan Redmond will be appearing in between performances of Doctor Faustus while Simon Russell Beale, described by The Independent as “the greatest stage actor of his generation”, makes a rare appearance on the Scottish stage. Glasgow-born Lord of the Rings star Billy Boyd takes to the stage in his home town.
The auditorium seating in the Citizens Theatre is over 20 years old. The campaign to replace the aging seats and upgrade the flooring in the auditorium has attracted support from well-known faces such as David Hayman and Miriam Margolyes. Individuals and trusts and foundations have been showing their support for the theatre by dedicating seats in the auditorium. Audiences have been contributing to the campaign by adding an optional £1 donation to ticket purchases, with others choosing to support the campaign with donations online, by text and at collection boxes in the theatre’s box office and bars.
Work on replacing the seating and flooring in the stalls area will commence in the summer of 2013. This improvement to the theatre’s facilities comes one month after the announcement of a major re-development of the whole theatre, expected to commence in 2016.
Tickets for Tell Me the Truth About Love are £25, including a glass of fizz and are available from citz.co.uk or 0141 429 0022.
