The Politician's Husband Is The Mirror's TV Pick Of The Day

The Daily Mirror have chosen tonight's first episode of The Politician's Husband as one of their TV Picks Of The Day. They say:
No sooner has Broadchurch ended than David Tennant’s second big drama of the week gets under way.
Nearly 20 years ago, Paula Milne’s Channel 4 drama The Politician’s Wife put a new spin of revenge on to the familiar tale of the good little woman obediently standing by her MP husband after a sex scandal broke over their heads like a rotten egg.
This time, the married couple in the spotlight, Aiden Hoynes (David Tennant doing an English accent) and his wife Freya Gardner (the fabulous Emily Watson), are both in Westminster.
He is the thrusting senior Cabinet minister with a hairdo as extravagant as his ambitions. She is the junior minister who has been happy until now to let her husband’s career come first. They have a son with Asperger’s, another young daughter and a passionate sex life that makes you wonder where on earth they get their energy from.
As the story begins, Aiden is making an explosive resignation speech that is interpreted as a bid for the party leadership (we’re never told which party he represents).
But after his supporters stab him in the back, he’s left floundering in political obscurity while, in a tactical move to humiliate him, his wife is unexpectedly offered the opportunity to leapfrog over him into a position of real power. And the man championing her is her husband’s enemy, Bruce Babbish MP.
At lunch we get the measure of Babbish when we see him ordering: “Calves liver. Rare.”
Presumably because raw horse hearts were off the menu that day.
Freya’s loyalty to her husband is about to be put to the test.
