David Tennant Has Voice Coach Lessons For His Gracepoint Accent

David Tennant has revealed that he will be using a voice coach via Skype to help him with his American accent for Gracepoint, the US version of Broadchurch.

Talking to Christian O'Connell on the Absolute Radio Breakfast Show this morning he said, “I will be doing an American accent, yes. I will start working on it this afternoon actually and am getting help from a voice coach over Skype from America.  That's how they do it.”

David plays a version of his original character DI Alec Hardy, now an America detective called Emmett Carver. Broadchurch creator Chris Chibnall, who is executive producing the show for Fox has said that it will revolve around the same events and similar characters but relocated to a sleepy Californian coastal town. Joining David in the ten-part event series will be Anna Gunn (Ellie Miller), Jacki Weaver (Susan Wright), Kevin Zegers (Owen Burke). Michael Peña (Mark Lasseter), Virginia Kull (Beth Lasseter) and Kevin Rankin (Paul Coates). Shooting starts in late January and continues until May in various North American locations including Oak Bay, Victoria, BC.

Gracepoint will air as part of the 2014-15 season.
