GRACEPOINT: John Goldwyn Joins As Executive Producer

John Goldwyn, the grandson of legendary movie mogul Samuel Goldwyn of MGM, has signed on to the team behind the new Fox TV event series Gracepoint. He joins the team of executive producers that include Chris Chibnall, the creator of the original series Broadchurch upon which the new adaptation is based, Dan Futterman and Anya Epstein (In Treatment), Jane Featherstone of Kudos (The Hour) and  Shine America's Carolyn Bernstein (The Bridge).

Gracepoint starts shooting early next week in the Greater Victoria area on Vancouver Island, BC. and stars David Tennant as Detective Emmett Carver, a character based on his role of DI Alec Hardy in the original. Yesterday John Goldwyn spoke to Adam Sawatsky of local channel CTV Vancouver Island and said that during the 5 month shoot they intended to film much of the action in the Greater Victoria area, especially focusing on the village of Oak Bay which will double as fictional California seaside town Gracepoint. Already they have locations for the Gracepoint Journal and the Crestview Inn at opposite ends of Oak Bay Avenue, while two local residences serve as family homes for the characters.

Gracepoint explores the impact on a small community after a local boy is found murdered on the beach. The town is shattered under the pressure of the police investigation and media scrutiny and once close friends and neighbours begin to turn on one another. David Tennant is joined in the production by Anna Gunn, Nick Nolte, Kevin Zegers and Jacki Weaver. John Goldwyn said of the narrative, "It digs into and illuminates how a terrible tragedy can illuminate the inner secrets and the inner lives of people and how those inner secrets are exposed to the members of the community in which they live."

The former VC of Paramount Pictures and executive producer of Dexter also spoke at his pleasure at being based in Victoria for the duration of the shoot. "We are happy to be shooting all of Gracepoint in Victoria...we're really excited to be here and be visitors in this community and be part of it for a while," he said.
