INDIA: Doctor Who Launches On FX Tonight With Rose & Doctor Who Explained



Viewers in India are set to get initiated into the world of Doctor Who when all eight series of the iconic British show blaze onto their screens for the first time starting from tonight. Doctor Who will air on FX and will be broadcast into a million homes across India.

Doctor Who is the longest running sci-fi TV show in the world depicting the adventures of the Doctor, a 2000 year old Time Lord, who travels the universe in his TARDIS, a time-travelling spaceship in the shape of an old British police box. Along with a succession of companions, the Doctor combats a variety of foes while working to save civilisations and help people in need. 

The show was relaunched in the UK in 2005 after a long hiatus and has gone on to win fans all around the world. Tonight sees the first episode of the revived series materialising on FX at 9pm starring Christopher Eccleston as the Doctor and Billie Piper as Rose Tyler. Prior to that, there's the chance for viewers to get to know a bit about the show before they start to watch. The hour long BBC America documentary Doctor Who Explained will air from 8.00pm, also on FX.

The documentary takes a look back into the famous 'Doctor Who' series and interacts with the cast and crew featuring highlights of previous seasons and behind the scenes. The programme includes contributions from cast and crew from both the classic and modern series.

Rose stumbles across a mysterious individual called 'The Doctor'. She tries to help as he seeks out the Nestene Consciousness, an alien attempting to take over the world.

With the Doctor able to change his face to cheat death, a total of four actors have played the Time Lord since the 2005 relaunch. With a new episode every weeknight at 9pm, viewers will soon be able to see David Tennant, Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi giving their own takes on the role.
