DAVID TENNANT REVIEW OF 2015: February - Another Award And Setting A Record

Welcome to the second of our looks back at David Tennant's incredible year. Today we'll be reviewing February 2015 which saw David appearing on TV and radio and collecting another well-deserved award.

TV

The second series of Broadchurch continued in the UK, Ireland, Canada, Norway and New Zealand. Although losing out to the BBC’s show Silent Witness in the overnight ratings, consolidated figures showed that many people were viewing via catch up and on demand services. The series also launched in Australia and South Africa. The show concluded in the UK on a series high of 7.9m viewers, a 33.7% audience share.

New cast members were still being announced for Marvel’s Jessica Jones with Eka Darville, Erin Moriarty and Wil Travel signing on as Malcolm, Hope and an as yet unnamed NYPD officer.

ITV announced that Gracepoint, the American version of Broadchurch, also starring David, was to be shown on ITV Encore in the UK and the series would be released as a 3-disc DVD box set. Meanwhile the show began airing in Belgium and Korea.

Theatre

David was voted Best Actor In A Play by theatre goers in the WhatsOnStage Awards for his role in the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Richard II. The production was staged at the Barbican Theater in London from December 2013 – January 2014.

Film

Toni Collette was announced as another member of the voice cast alongside David in the upcoming feature Reds And Grays, an animated movie about the battle between red and grey squirrels.

Radio

David made his first appearance on BBC Radio 4’s long-running show Just A Minute. He amazed host Nicholas Parsons and co-panellists Stephen Fry, Paul Merton and Julian Clary by setting a new record when he talked for a full 60 seconds on his first go. You can hear David’s response to the category ‘Exit, Pursued By A Bear’ here.

Comics

Titan Comics announced a multi-Doctor miniseries featuring the Tenth, Eleventh and Twelfth Doctors for the summer. The story would be written by Doctor Who scriptwriter Paul Cornell.

It was announced that David would be attending the Wizard World Comic Con in  Raleigh in March, his first American convention appearance since San Diego Comic Con in 2009.
