October arrived and with it a plethora of new TV appearances for David, including a much-lauded stint hosting the long-running current affairs panel show Have I Got News For You. With a month to go till the launch of Marvel's Jessica Jones, more was revealed about the show, including a full trailer.
TV
A new trailer for Marvel’s Jessica Jones gave the first chilling look at how David’s character Kilgrave would cast his shadow over the
lead character.
The series cast appeared at New York Comic Con; however
David was forced to drop out at the last minute due to other work commitments but sent a pre-taped video message to
apologise for his absence. The first episode was screened to a delighted audience
resulting in an overwhelmingly positive reaction.
Towards the end of the month Marvel released a full length trailer for the series which finally showed Kilgrave in action. David explained that Kilgrave’s power of mind control he’s turned him into a
demanding, manipulative monster. “He’s
the kid in the toy shop; he can have whatever he wants,” he said. “Part of the
journey of growing up is that you have to learn things don't always work that
way. But for Kilgrave, that's never been the truth.”
David was a guest star on the first episode of the new Sky
One entertainment show Bring The Noise! David and host Ricky Wilson recreated a classic Elton John and Kiki Dee duet and the show’s finale saw David paying tribute to his Pet Shop Boys namesake.
The fourth season of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles premiered
on Nickelodeon in the USA with David voicing the role of The Fugitoid, the
Turtles’ rescuer and mentor.
David recorded his guest appearance on Jamie & Jimmy’s Friday Night Feast, joining hosts Jamie Oliver and Jimmy Doherty in their pop
up restaurant at the end of Southend Pier in Essex. The show will be shown on
Channel 4 on January 15th. He also recorded an appearance on the BBC One show Room 101, scheduled for
broadcast on January 14th.
David was the guest host for Have I Got News For You, with special
guests Grayson Perry and Katherine Ryan.
David voiced a small guest role as Igor the Door in Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and voiced the first in a two part series: Knights Of
Classic Drama At The BBC.
Doctor Who
Big news from Big Finish as they announced that David would
be reuniting with Catherine Tate as the Doctor and Donna for some brand new
Doctor Who audio adventures, scheduled for release in 2016. David and Catherine explained in a video interview why they loved working
together.
Archive footage of David as the Tenth Doctor was shown in
the new Doctor Who episode The Girl Who Died as viewers were finally given the
explanation of why the Twelfth Doctor has the face of the Roman trader rescued
in The Fires Of Pompeii.
Theatre
David’s performance dates and ticketing details were
confirmed for the New York transfer of Richard II in 2016.
Film
What We Did On Our Holiday was released in cinemas in Japan
as A Gift From Pirate Grandpa.
Audio
David was among the cast of a new audiobook recording of the
gothic horror novel Carmilla. He also voiced the role of the propaganda minister in the new video game Just Cause 3.
Charity
David voiced a new campaign ad for the Children’s Air Ambulance.
Classic FM released their charity play Upstairs Downland Abbey, narrated by David and starring all of their regular presenters.
Personal Appearances
Wizard World announced that David would be their guest
again, this time attending the St. Louis and Madison conventions in 2016. Billie Piper was later added to the guest list.
Awards
David was longlisted in the National Television Awards for
his appearance in Broadchurch. He was also nominated as Best Film Actor for What We Did On Our Holiday in the
Scottish BAFTAs and as favourite SciFi / Fantasy Actor in the 2016 People’s Choice Awards.
